The Uummannaq Arctic glasses designed by Cool(E)motion to raise funds for Children Center in Greenland

This is really cool what Dutch artists, of the cool(E)motion Arctic Arts project, do for the sake of Children’s Center in Uummannaq, Greenland.

I’m following these cool(E)motion guys’ achievements. I wrote about them previously in the post Iceberg with Dutch Artist Ap Verheggen Artworks Breaks Loose.

It was them, who put a big sculpture on an iceberg and let them roaming from the Greenlandic settlement of Uummannaq across the Arctic waters and it was them, who cried out about the apparent climate change affect, when the iceberg got melted and collapsed just in a few months, faster than expected.

This time they are promoting the Uummannaq Arctic glasses they designed on the basis of traditional Inuit sunglasses. Their cool(E)motion glasses are mordern, high-tech and have all Inuit glasses ability to protect eyes from bright sunshine and snowstorms.

Do you remember Galya Morrell‘s video of the recent New York City blizzards? Sharing the video, she said, “I miss the Uummannaq glasses. They could protect my eyes here!” She didn’t really expect to experience snowstorms in NYC. Who could?! She regreted that she had left them in Greenland.

The Arctic glasses can be very demanded worldwide. Indeed, did you expect heavy snowfalls in Europe and even Las Vegas? No one. These glasses are good to protect your eyes from sudden nature disasters. It’s serious, no jokes.

Antarctic Scrimshaw Billiard Balls by Tina White

Tina White is a fine artist. She makes amazing custom scrimshaw pieces. Whatever she does is unique and for private collectors. Here is one of her samples. This is one billiard ball, but with many polar themes. Her scrimshaw stories are real works of art.

Yes, Tina White is a big Polar fan. She wrote about herself, “I spent this past summer cooking at Summit Camp on the Greenland Ice cap. So now I can claim being to both Arctic/Antarctic regions since 2006 when I went to Toolik Lake up on the North Slope of Alaska in 2006 and Greenland in 2007.”

A documentary about Inuit Arts

That’s good to be connected via Twitter. Received a message from Canada-based @eyeonthearctic, who informed me about the release of a new documentary of Inuit Contemporary Arts.

Description
Art in the North is changing. While traditional art is still quite popular around the world, Inuit artists are increasingly interested in creating art that reflects today’s reality; visual reflections on social change and climate change. To date, the South has largely ignored “THE NEW RAW” coming from the North. Journalist Eilís Quinn explores what this means, and whether the South may be missing out on something truly historic, and important.

The full video is available at Eye on the Arctic.

Well, that’s a good sharing experinece. If you’ve got cold-related events announcements, just tell me by any means.

Track the iceberg with sculptures in the Arctic Ocean

Track the iceberg with sculptures in the Arctic Ocean

As Joel and Galya worked at their great project “Uummannaq Music Festival” in Uummaannaq, Greenland, 590 kilometers north of the Artic Circle, the team of Cool(E)motion, placed two huge sculptures on an iceberg.

The sculptures start to float shortly and will make an uncertain trip through the Arctic oceans. Cool(E)motion attached GPS systems on the sculptures so everybody can see ‘live’ where they are drifting to.

The project is launched to show the impact of climate change on local cultures.
