This is really cool what Dutch artists, of the cool(E)motion Arctic Arts project, do for the sake of Children’s Center in Uummannaq, Greenland.

I’m following these cool(E)motion guys’ achievements. I wrote about them previously in the post Iceberg with Dutch Artist Ap Verheggen Artworks Breaks Loose.

It was them, who put a big sculpture on an iceberg and let them roaming from the Greenlandic settlement of Uummannaq across the Arctic waters and it was them, who cried out about the apparent climate change affect, when the iceberg got melted and collapsed just in a few months, faster than expected.

This time they are promoting the Uummannaq Arctic glasses they designed on the basis of traditional Inuit sunglasses. Their cool(E)motion glasses are mordern, high-tech and have all Inuit glasses ability to protect eyes from bright sunshine and snowstorms.

Do you remember Galya Morrell‘s video of the recent New York City blizzards? Sharing the video, she said, “I miss the Uummannaq glasses. They could protect my eyes here!” She didn’t really expect to experience snowstorms in NYC. Who could?! She regreted that she had left them in Greenland.

The Arctic glasses can be very demanded worldwide. Indeed, did you expect heavy snowfalls in Europe and even Las Vegas? No one. These glasses are good to protect your eyes from sudden nature disasters. It’s serious, no jokes.

One pair cost 49 EUR. Cool(E)motion says, “Of every frame more than 10% is directly transferred to the Children’s home in Uummannaq, a project by Ann and Ole-Jorgen Hammeken.” Learn more about the Arctic glasses at NRGsociety.com.

With this new product, Dutch artists are appealing to the world’s attention for a social problem. They designed an object which is inspired by the problem itself.

Further, see celebrities wearing the Arctic sun glasses.

A British adventure TV show star, Bruce Parry, is wearing shades to promote Uummannaq Polar Institute. He was visiting Uummannaq to make an episode of the Arctic documentary that is on BBC2 on air now.

By the way, Bruce Parry was in my area with the same purpose too. Check exclusive photographs of his expedition to Siberia’s Arctic at eYakutia.com.

In the above video: Princess Maxima Zorreguieta and Crown Prince Willem Alexander experience Polar Glasses. They are very wondered about the effects of these magical way of looking to the Arctic.

Yes, Tina White is a big Polar fan. She wrote about herself, “I spent this past summer cooking at Summit Camp on the Greenland Ice cap. So now I can claim being to both Arctic/Antarctic regions since 2006 when I went to Toolik Lake up on the North Slope of Alaska in 2006 and Greenland in 2007.”

That’s good to be connected via Twitter. Received a message from Canada-based @eyeonthearctic, who informed me about the release of a new documentary of Inuit Contemporary Arts.

Description
Art in the North is changing. While traditional art is still quite popular around the world, Inuit artists are increasingly interested in creating art that reflects today’s reality; visual reflections on social change and climate change. To date, the South has largely ignored “THE NEW RAW” coming from the North. Journalist Eilís Quinn explores what this means, and whether the South may be missing out on something truly historic, and important.

The full video is available at Eye on the Arctic.

Well, that’s a good sharing experinece. If you’ve got cold-related events announcements, just tell me by any means.

ArtDaily.com reports that the big moment for the sculptures of Dutch artist Ap Verheggen has come. The iceberg in Greenland on which he placed his artwork “Dog Sled Riders” back in March has broken loose. The uncertain journey can be followed on the website www.coolemotion.org, via GPS, photos, and video.

Satellite images show that the iceberg on which Verheggen placed his art sculptures in March have started to move. It drifts away from the island of Uummannaq with an unknown destination. In the end, the iceberg melts and the metal sculptures will go down. When this will happen, no one knows.

The sculptures are a symbol for the forced changes in culture of the Inuit as a result of extreme climate change. The inhabitants are looking for a new way of living to maintain their ‘own’ identity. Verheggen wants to draw attention to the cultural consequences of the fast changing climate in the Arctic. “Climate change=Culture change” is his motto.

P.S. Just as an idea. Why not Arctic Monkeys join this project? They can play a composition on this floating iceberg with the rock-look art metal sculptures. Sounds like a joke, but it could be pretty interesting.

As Joel and Galya worked at their great project “Uummannaq Music Festival” in Uummaannaq, Greenland, 590 kilometers north of the Artic Circle, the team of Cool(E)motion, placed two huge sculptures on an iceberg.

The sculptures start to float shortly and will make an uncertain trip through the Arctic oceans. Cool(E)motion attached GPS systems on the sculptures so everybody can see ‘live’ where they are drifting to.

The project is launched to show the impact of climate change on local cultures.

‘The sculptures will travel through the arctic, leaving a trail online’

‘Yes, in time the sculptures will disappear, but hopefully their memory will trail the arctic seas.’

cool(E)motion™ Project Information

By creating a gigantic and unprecedented art project, cool(E)motiontm wants to re-engage the public on the topic of climate change. It wants to do so in a positive manner, contrary to the fault-finding impulses or the accusing finger.

We will demonstrate the inextricable link between climate and culture and visualize what the consequences of that link are. To illustrate this we will travel into the areas around the North Pole. The impressive dynamic natural elements that are typical of this area speak to everyone’s imagination: a virginal white stage with unimaginable forces, such as rapidly receding glaciers, floating icebergs, drifting ice. On these dynamic stages we will place huge sculptures, which derive their inspiration from the local culture. These almost majestic sculptures will be propelled by their stages at high speeds toward their final destruction. In order to reach our audience with this magnificent theatrical drama, we will broadcast it live into people’s living rooms.

Because cool(E)motiontm is very concerned about the effects of climate change moving south, we will give the very first victims of climate change a voice: the Inuit, a group of people who currently have no voice. Their story can become ours. But Inuit culture has always dealt with adaptation to harsh circumstances. Because our culture is based on more stable circumstances, we are not used to short-term change. We, with our more structured culture, will have a tougher time. But nonetheless, climate change means culture change.

We realize that our stage may be far removed from people’s doorstep, therefore we will bring this project into people’s living room, via TV, and other modern media.

Since cool(E)motiontm condemns no one for actions, behaviours or opinions in the past, but rather puts its energy into creating a new sort of consciousness, everyone has a chance to participate and make a positive difference. Let us go out and start doing today what is required for tomorrow.

Art is emotion. And it is this very emotion which is lacking in the discussion that even for insiders has become a cacophony. We seek your support for cool(E)motiontm in creating a better future for the planet and its people. In this way, a new dimension to climate change will be added, putting feeling and emotion back into the debate.
