This is the preview of Ice Road Truckers TV Show Season 3 by History Channel.
About
In Prudhoe Bay, a network of ice roads in the tundra crisscross river systems & open ocean to connect Americas booming North Slope oil fields to dry land. Every winter truckers have less than three months to shuttle critical supplies over the ice. There’s only one way to get to this remote location: 400 miles of ice-covered, mountainous terrain known as The Dalton Highway.

The US-based natural gas marketer Coweta-Fayette EMC Natural Gas have recently published cold weather energy efficiency tips for its customers to make their homes well prepared to keep warm, and prevent their bills going up. A nice intention, a good sign of customers care, and well-done PR trick. Whatever it can be, I found their tips pretty useful and appropriate.
However, I and my relativies use some of the listed tips only:

Currently I visit extension courses on auctions, contests, etc at Yakutsk State University. Now my ordinary day is as follows. At 8:20 am I leave my kids at kindergarten. A few weeks ago it was the very time to view sunrise. Once, on Nov. 20, 2009, I decided to bring along a camera to take pictures of the rising sun. But I failed to do that after the kindergarten. I saw the first lights only, but no sun. See the above pic. I walked along the quay to the university with the hope to see the scarlet shafts of sunrise… and eventually I started shivering. Took a bus and finally got into the building.

Sunrise happened during the lecture, after 9 am. A pic above was taken through the window glass. (more…)

That’s me
My initial wish was to write about winter driving tips, but I found that gathering all local tips would take much of my time. So, I decided to start from myself.
Here is the list of taboos I prefer not to break, when outdoor temperature is, let’s say, below -25C at least. If I am good in following them, I know, I will be feeling pretty good in one of the coldest cities on Earth. Here is my don’ts top.
I have a German friend, Bjorn Steinz. He is a pro photographer based in Prague. Two years ago he visited Yakutsk in November. He spent a few days just walking around on streets and taking pictures of people. Since then I promote his works and website oka2 Photography on every occasion, and I am grateful to him for giving such an permission
Here are what he came out with.

Like this winter. Apparently all flu viruses will die and stop bothering till spring.
The video was short in December of the last year.
Today started a cloudless day here in Faibanks, Alaska. People would think that a day like this would be warmer since the sun is out; but because of the short length of our days, exactly 7 hours and 48 minutes today, the sun does not have the time to bring temperatures up much. Today’s high was 5 degrees fahrenheit, about -14 celsius. Wintery temperatures for sure.
Feeling the gradual temperature drop and knowing I wasn’t yet fully ready for winter I used this weekend for winter preparation. I had a long list of things to do for ther: I had wood to split, I had winter tires to install on my wife’s Subaru, I had to clear my driveway of snow, finish winterizing my Jeep, and also fix a small leak on our water heater.
Saturday started with me on our driveway with the snow thrower. (more…)
The Canada-based The Weather Network is useful and popular, mainly in the North America. About this service I’ve heard from SusanInCanada, a ColdUnited co-editor. Right, it’s good. Forecasts weather pretty much accurately. Most of all I like its photo gallery.
Today on the website I found the banner announcing the new set of pics “Snow in Halloween?” with the comment “It may not look or sound right but for some it was a scary, snowy Halloween.” Yeah, why not see goulish images?! Do it.
A Flickr resident Michael aka Fort Photo informs “Fort Collins has just experienced our snowiest October in recorded history and the snow all came in one long storm! Here’s a view of the action outside of our home. Happy Winter all! Fall color cancel for us I’m afraid, heh.”
