Mikael Stranberg on the Termo Original promo poster

Mikael Stranberg on the Termo Original promo poster

This is really great what Mikael Stranberg, a famous Swedish explorer, did. He allowed me to show his travel winter photographs on the Cold United weblog. Awesome!

Who is Mikael Strandberg?

Actually, no need to say who Mikael Strandberg is, but I will be happy to introduce him.

He is a member of The Royal Geographical Society, Explorers Club, The Long Riders Guild, and Travellers Club.

He is the man who did Expedition: Siberia 2004 across Kolyma in Yakutia.

It’s him, who features the world’s major explorers on his personal blog www.mikaelstrandberg.com

It’s, certainly, Mikael, who officially does promo for Termo Original.

Back to the current post. Hereby, we present Mikael’s cold photographs taken at three different places, precisely in Kolyma (Yakutia/Siberia), Iceland and Argentina. Enjoy fantastic winter pictures!

What a great video! This is the preview of the BBC documentary “Arctic with Bruce Parry.” It’s coming up soon on BBC 1. Don’t miss this unique chance and spectacular insight into the life of Uummannaq, Greenland. Check the schedule on BBC.

Follow also the amazing project Uummannaq Music run by Galya Morrell and Joel Spiegelman in Uummannaq. All project’s news updates might be found on its Facebook page as well.

This post is dedicated to my friends in Uummannaq. Greetings from the Siberian city of Yakutsk! :)

It was said to hear from Ole Jorgen about the absence of sea ice and snow in your area this winter. Hope it would be possible to backward nature processes :(

Snowy winter holidays in Helsinki, Finland. Picture by Piero Damiani.

On the web, especially on twitter, I see often people complaining about the cold weather and winter. In a Washington DC forum one lady asked, if there were other cold admirers, and she immediately got replies like, “Are you nuts?!”

My god, how is it possible not to love the cold? Especially when the cold weather is not extreme, mild and snowy as it is in Helsinki.

Take a look at Piero Damiani’s winter street photographs taken during this month’s holidays in Helsinki, Finland. Awesome! True wonderland to dream about!

Coldest places on Earth at WX-Now... and no Siberian settlements of Verkhoyansk and Oymyakon in the top...

Coldest places on Earth at WX-Now... and no Siberian settlements of Verkhoyansk and Oymyakon in the top...

A year ago I chatted with Jordi, the Catalonian meteorology fan, who runs an amazing blog about amazing snow, http://amazingsnow.wordpress.com/. Think, he is more than just a climate fan, he is actually a pro. Once he wrote the article Limits of Oymyakon for Cold United. A professional could create such a scientific text only.

So I asked him, whether it is possible to display the chart of the current coldest places weather info on any website and, if yes, how to do that. He said that the lowest for “the moment” was not an easy thing to find.

However, Jordi gave me the link to the weather info website www.ogimet.com, I presume, he was working on its development, and said that the world’s coldest places ranking didn’t work yet at that moment…

A few months ago, I received a message from a class mate, who lives now in Calgary. He provided the link to WX-Now’s Coldest places on Earth page and stated, “Calgary is the second coldest place in the world!” I said, “What?!”

Winter holidays in Stockholm, Sweden. Street pictures by Piero Damiani.

Winter holidays in Stockholm, Sweden. Street pictures by Piero Damiani.

I have a friend in Australia. His name is Piero Damiani and he is a big fan of cold weather. Every winter (in northern hemisphere) he spends holidays in cold regions. Last times he was travelling across Canada and North-Western Europe.

Here is the list of previous posts with Piero Damiani‘s gorgeous winter pictures:

- ColdUnited Flickr Pick: -42C in Yellowknife, Canada;
- Photos: Traveling through the winter cold – Edmonton, Canada;
- Traveling through the winter cold – Jasper, Canada;
- Traveling through the winter cold – Reykjavik, Iceland.

By the way, Piero is an active member of the Flickr community. All latest photographs might be found in his photostream.

This winter he is exploring Scandinavia, a beautiful land of magic, but mild European winter. The first stop, if I am correct, was Stockholm, Sweden. You know, it’s hard to follow him, as he is a fast traveller.

Further, please, find his pictures of winter holidays in Stockholm, Sweden taken on January 4-5, 2011. Awesome, aren’t they?

Winter in Sweden. A stud-farm in the countryside. Photo by Olle Kjellin.

I have a Swedish friend of mine. His name is Olle Kjellin. He is a speech doctor. He might give you a lot of knowledge about speech, pronunciation, language, communication, brain, learning, memory… particularly about how to best learn a new language.

So Olle lives in the area of Alvesta, Sweden. As he says, it is a very small village with only three populated houses. And he is a big fan of horses. Right, he’s got horses and runs together with his wife a private stud-farm.

One December morning they woke up, opened the door and saw… plenty of snow! Take a look at Olle’s Swedish winter countryside photographs.

Hello, friends!

Just remembered all cold regions, apart from Russia, are going to celebrate Christmas pretty soon! Here are my wishes to you.

Don’t complain about the cold weather, if it happened on your side. Look at my X-mas iPhone video greeting (a sort of) done, while I was standing on the crossroad in front of Yakutsk City Hall this morning. The outdoor temperature was -44C. Presume it is much colder than yours :)

Take care! Have fun! Take your time to find the best gifts in stores! Enjoy the X-mas fever!

Aaaah, this is really great! Three days ago I published the video about how I and my wife were walking the main street called Lenin Ave. in Yakutsk. In the above vid you can see a lot of snow, people in a hurry and… Well, just watch.

Today I’ve received a reply from Gissur, an Icelandic friend, who made his own video. He was driving on his car through Reykjavik yesterday. A fascinating sight!
