The documentary is from Yukon Arctic Ultra on Vimeo.

Wow! The Yukon Arctic Ultra Race looks really cool! Hey, I would love to participate in it and try my guts, but not in Canada. In Siberia, definitely! Especially in my lovely Yakutia!

What is the Yukon Arctic Ultra? Read the race info…

Race course:

The Yukon Arctic Ultra follows the Yukon Quest trail, the trail of the world’s toughest Sled Dog Race.

The marathon finishes just off the Takhini River. The 100 mile racers go from Whitehorse to Braeburn. The 300 mile racers keep on going all the way to Pelly Farm. There they will leave the river to turn around and go back to Pelly Crossing on the farm road. The 430 mile athletes do not return to Pelly Crossing. Instead they continue on the Quest trail to Dawson City.

The trail is marked. However, if there is fresh snow or a lot of wind it is difficult to find the trail. If to enhance ability to understand orientation, a GPS is recommended…

Starting time, date and location:

The Yukon Arctic Ultra 2012 will start on Feb. 4th. The time for the start is 10:30 AM.
Start will be done downtown Whitehorse next to the Yukon river…

Disciplines: Mountain bike, xc-skis or foot.

Via Yukon Arctic Ultra

Currently, Canada’s Yukon Arctic Ultra is the world’s coldest & toughest race, but it won’t be as such, if the race would be conducted in Russia’s Siberian region of Yakutia. A good idea to work on since now

Everest in a continuous 365-day period. His purpose? To travel to the “front lines” of global warming to document the changes occurring in these last great frozen places.

“This expedition will tell the story of these remote places so we can better understand how our actions affect the poles and ultimately the planet,” Larsen says. “We all need to be reminded that we must act now to stop global warming.”

That’s really great to have friends around the world! Just a few minutes ago two fellows – Ilya Kovyakin from the Russian city of Magadan and Pelle Gangeskar from the Norwegian village of Røldal – simultaneously shared mobile photographs taken on snow-covered roads today, October 23rd, 2010.

Let’s play the game. Just guess where the above pictures were taken. Any ideas? Okey, see answers further.

The first mobile photo was done by Pelle Gangeskar on the hill road in Norway. Yeah, it was pretty easy to identify the location. All Norwegians, as you know, are big fans of skiing

The second snapshot was done on the Seimchan road in Magadan Oblast. Ilya Kovyakin rode on his Toyota off-road vehicle. That was also easy to guess. Russia’s Far East is full of Japanese cars.

More photos:

Mountains between Magadan and Seimchan.

By Ilya Kovyakin." width="375" height="500" />
The bridge over the Kolyma River on the Seimchan Highway.

What’s the purpose of the post? To show that the winter has arrived! Wish you this winter to be great! Have fun and keep yourself warm!

P.S. Saying a lot of thanks to my friends, Ilya and Pelle, for proving photographs!
