Bielefeld, Germany (AP) – Germany is sinking in the snow. Many people feel cold – Dorthe Kohler, however, is happy since the onset of winter. The 54-year-old Inuit woman from Aasiaat on the west coast of Greenland, feels these days as in their homeland. For 15 years she lives in Bielefeld.

Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa she told how the German differs from the Greenland winter.

How does the German winter for you?

Kohler: “I feel like at home. The childhood comes back to me. Snow, always snow. Dog sled ride, skiing – those were good times. In Bielefeld is rarely any snow. But I can not change, I have to through. I chose to live here because I also have to endure, that there is hardly any snow. ”

Frozen Rissbach Gorge

The river Rissbach has it’s origin near the Eng Alp in the Alpine Park Karwendel. It runs after 26 km into the River Isar which runs through Lake Sylvenstein soon afterwards.

Standing on the bridge that crosses the river Rissbach at the famous Rissbach Gorge and marks the border between Austria and Germany. Under the bridge the Rissbach rumbles down the narrow gorge and falls down over a series of three drops. The walls are vertical and have deep undercuts.

Ice SculpturesHeat-sensitive  artworks

Berlin. An exhibition right next to the arena O2 World in Berlin-Friedrichshain unusual ice sculptures by Chinese artists. Thus the Chinese Eiskunstfestival “Ice Art” will be held for the first time in Germany, as the organizers communicated. Until 19 February 2010 can be admired the icy works of art in the 1200 Qudratmeter great hall to rule consistently with about minus three degrees Celsius.

Swans and winter in Hamburg, Germany

Nov. 23, 2009, Germany | Traditionally in the end of Novermber on Hamburg’s canals and rivers swans were gathered to be delivered to their winter shelters at Alster Lake. Waters in the lake are heated, and swans are cared and fed till the spring. (more…)
