Snowstorm in Yakutsk, Siberia, Russia. October 27, 2011

Snowstorm in Yakutsk, Siberia, Russia. October 27, 2011

Yesterday was a turning day in Yakutsk. It looked like the Winter said, “Ok, no more games with mild winter weather. Let’s have the real cold come right now and for a long time.”

The day didn’t promise anything extraordinary. It was pretty regular in the beginning. -3C and light snow. By the end of a work day, something happened. Winds started blowing furiously and snow descended in abundance. It was the Arctic-like blizzard that lasted, unfortunately, not so long.

Cool anyway! People liked it. See more snowstorm photographs and a video.

Yakutsk Live Photostream

These trees overloaded with snow resemble sculptures of an old man and hugging kids. Yeah, winter is still in the Siberian city of Yakutsk. This morning we had -34C. Pretty warm to us. A photo was taken by the iPhone on Feb. 25, 2011.

I am trying to make a sort of Yakutsk Live Photostream. Daily I take new mobile pictures of Yakutsk (Yakutia/Russia) and upload them instantly to my Twitpic account. Updates are automatically published on Twitter @yakutia. So, do follow me, if interested.

Mikael Stranberg on the Termo Original promo poster

Mikael Stranberg on the Termo Original promo poster

This is really great what Mikael Stranberg, a famous Swedish explorer, did. He allowed me to show his travel winter photographs on the Cold United weblog. Awesome!

Who is Mikael Strandberg?

Actually, no need to say who Mikael Strandberg is, but I will be happy to introduce him.

He is a member of The Royal Geographical Society, Explorers Club, The Long Riders Guild, and Travellers Club.

He is the man who did Expedition: Siberia 2004 across Kolyma in Yakutia.

It’s him, who features the world’s major explorers on his personal blog www.mikaelstrandberg.com

It’s, certainly, Mikael, who officially does promo for Termo Original.

Back to the current post. Hereby, we present Mikael’s cold photographs taken at three different places, precisely in Kolyma (Yakutia/Siberia), Iceland and Argentina. Enjoy fantastic winter pictures!

Snowy winter holidays in Helsinki, Finland. Picture by Piero Damiani.

Snowy winter holidays in Helsinki, Finland. Picture by Piero Damiani.

On the web, especially on twitter, I see often people complaining about the cold weather and winter. In a Washington DC forum one lady asked, if there were other cold admirers, and she immediately got replies like, “Are you nuts?!”

My god, how is it possible not to love the cold? Especially when the cold weather is not extreme, mild and snowy as it is in Helsinki.

Take a look at Piero Damiani’s winter street photographs taken during this month’s holidays in Helsinki, Finland. Awesome! True wonderland to dream about!

Winter holidays in Stockholm, Sweden. Street pictures by Piero Damiani.

I have a friend in Australia. His name is Piero Damiani and he is a big fan of cold weather. Every winter (in northern hemisphere) he spends holidays in cold regions. Last times he was travelling across Canada and North-Western Europe.

Here is the list of previous posts with Piero Damiani‘s gorgeous winter pictures:

- ColdUnited Flickr Pick: -42C in Yellowknife, Canada;
- Photos: Traveling through the winter cold – Edmonton, Canada;
- Traveling through the winter cold – Jasper, Canada;
- Traveling through the winter cold – Reykjavik, Iceland.

By the way, Piero is an active member of the Flickr community. All latest photographs might be found in his photostream.

This winter he is exploring Scandinavia, a beautiful land of magic, but mild European winter. The first stop, if I am correct, was Stockholm, Sweden. You know, it’s hard to follow him, as he is a fast traveller.

Further, please, find his pictures of winter holidays in Stockholm, Sweden taken on January 4-5, 2011. Awesome, aren’t they?
